The Power of the Masses
15th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Cycle B

A lowly shepherd boy was chosen to kill the giant Goliath. A lowly virgin was chosen to be the mother of God. 11 of the apostles were either fishermen or men of low stature. God chooses the weak and makes them strong.

This is a strong message to the powerful and to the arrogant. But alas, we still pursue the highest position. We buy our way to power. In the end, we trample upon the lowly and the poor.

The readings are in exultation of the poor and lowly. God doesn't rely on the powerful to change the world but the poor.

This is also a message for the priests and those who pastor the sheep of the Lord. Be humble and shepherd His flock.

But the message is more for all of us. Can only one person like a priest be in charge of the salvation of so many souls while majority of humanity just mind their own lives? We need the whole of humanity if we want real and lasting changes in the world. We should all work together and not just a handful.

We are all called to evangelize all of us rich and poor alike. We are not so poor as to have nothing to give and so rich as to have nothing to receive. We have the power of the Good News to change the world if we just get together in God's name.
